About

We Didn't Set Out to Follow the Future.
We Started Building It.

Hannk's story began in 2018. Long before digital vehicle access became a major talking point in car rental, Hannk was already developing technology designed to connect vehicles, customers and mobility platforms.

Hannk technology concept development and connected vehicle research

The original challenge was car sharing. The market was growing quickly, but the technology was fragmented. Different vehicles and car-sharing providers required different systems, different integrations and different customer journeys.

Hannk saw another way.

One platform capable of connecting multiple car-sharing technologies — all delivered under a completely white-labelled customer experience.

It was an ambitious idea. And it worked. But then the world changed.

2020

When the Market Stopped, Hannk Didn't.

In 2020, the pandemic changed global mobility almost overnight. Travel stopped. Rental volumes collapsed. Investment disappeared. And the car-sharing bubble that had been expanding so rapidly suddenly burst.

For many mobility technology projects, that was the end. For Hannk, it became the beginning of something much bigger.

What if we could digitalise the entire rental journey?

From an ambitious car-sharing idea, through a global standstill, to the True Digital Rental Experience.

2018

The Beginning

Hannk is created with an ambitious objective: connect multiple car-sharing technologies through one white-labelled platform.

2020

The World Stops

The pandemic transforms travel and mobility. The car-sharing boom collapses. Hannk disappears from view — but development continues.

2021–2025

The Evolution

Years of research, development and technology exploration transform the original concept — moving beyond car sharing towards the complete digital rental journey.

2026

The Rebirth

The pieces finally come together. A new Hannk emerges. Not simply rebuilt — reimagined.

We made a decision. Rather than abandon what we had built, we took Hannk out of the spotlight and continued developing it quietly in the background.

There were no launch deadlines. No pressure to release technology simply because the market wanted something new. Instead, we had time to ask a much bigger question.

So We Went Back to Work.

We looked at every stage of renting a vehicle — not from the perspective of what technology already existed, but from the perspective of what should be possible.

  • Why should a customer still need to stand at a rental counter?
  • Why should identity verification be separate from the rental process?
  • Why should a customer need a physical key?
  • Why should vehicle inspection, digital access, telematics, customer support and rental management exist in completely different systems?
  • Why should language be a barrier?
  • Why should digitalisation require rental companies to purchase multiple technologies from multiple suppliers?
  • And why should advanced digital rental technology require enormous upfront investment?

The more questions we asked, the clearer the opportunity became.

Hannk shouldn't simply return. Hannk needed to be reinvented.

Six Years of Evolution

Between the original Hannk of 2018 and the Hannk of today, technology changed dramatically — and we changed with it. We researched. We developed. We integrated. We tested. We rejected ideas that weren't good enough. And we searched internationally for technologies capable of becoming part of a completely connected rental experience.

One Journey. One Platform. One Experience.

A platform capable of connecting the customer, the rental operator and the vehicle — before the rental, during the rental, and after the rental.

Then everything came together

One connected ecosystem.

Technologies that once existed independently can finally work as part of one journey.

Hannk connected ecosystem bringing digital identity, digital keys, telematics, GeoLayers, virtual assistance and API technology together

Digital Identity

Verify once, travel further

Passport, driving licence and identity verification can become part of the customer's digital journey.

Digital Vehicle Access

Your phone, your key

The customer's phone can become part of the vehicle access experience, reducing dependence on traditional physical key handovers.

Digital Vehicle Inspection

Documented, not disputed

Guided photographs and video can document vehicle condition at collection and return.

Live Remote Assistance

A real person, whenever needed

Customers can connect with a real person when they need help — including remote visual assistance and advanced multilingual communication.

Intelligent Digital Key Sharing

No handover required

Authorised additional drivers can be managed digitally without the traditional physical key handover.

Advanced Geofencing

Intelligent boundaries

Rental operators can create intelligent geographical controls and events around the vehicle.

Connected Vehicle Technology

The fleet, live

Telematics and vehicle information can connect the rental operation directly with the vehicle.

Multilingual Technology

One world, one language

Customers and rental operators can communicate across language barriers, creating a genuinely international digital rental experience.

And this is only the beginning.

Digital Should Actually Mean Digital.

The term "digital rental" is used everywhere. But too often, the customer still has to find a desk. Or use a kiosk. Or collect a physical key. Or download another application. Or move between several disconnected systems.

We believe that misses the point.

Digital isn't a kiosk replacing a counter. Digital isn't another machine in the rental office. Digital isn't five different technologies joined together with five different contracts.

For us, digital means creating a journey where technology works quietly in the background while the customer simply moves forward — from voucher, to identity, to vehicle, to journey, to return.

That's the difference between adding digital features and creating a digital rental experience.

Technology Shouldn't Replace Customer Service.

There was another principle we refused to compromise on: digitalisation should not mean abandoning the customer. Sometimes people need help. So Hannk was designed around both automation and human assistance.

When everything is going smoothly, technology keeps the customer moving. When help is required, Hannk can bring a real person into the journey.

The future isn't technology instead of people. It's technology allowing people to deliver better service.

Built to Connect.

Integration isn't an afterthought at Hannk — it's where our story started. The original Hannk was created to connect multiple car-sharing technologies beneath one white-labelled platform. That philosophy remains at the heart of Hannk today.

Rental management systems. Brokers. Vehicle technology. Identity services. Telematics. Payment technology. Customer communication. Digital vehicle access. Hannk is being built to bring the pieces together.

Because the future of car rental doesn't need another disconnected system. It needs a platform that connects them.

And We Wanted to Change Something Else: Cost.

For too long, advanced rental technology has meant significant upfront investment. Hardware. Installation. Development. Integration. Multiple suppliers. Long contracts. For smaller and growing rental businesses, that can make genuine digitalisation almost impossible.

We wanted Hannk to be different. Advanced technology shouldn't only be available to the biggest rental companies in the world. Our commercial model has therefore been designed to remove many of the traditional barriers to adopting digital rental technology.

Lower Costs. Faster Adoption. Because technology only changes an industry when businesses can actually afford to use it.

2018 Wasn't the Wrong Time. It Was Just Early.

Looking back, perhaps Hannk arrived before the market was ready. But those years weren't lost — they gave us something incredibly valuable: time. Time to rethink the concept. Time to watch technology evolve. Time to understand what rental companies actually needed. Time to find better solutions. And time to turn an original car-sharing technology project into something considerably more ambitious.

The world eventually caught up with the idea that started Hannk. But Hannk had never stopped moving.

This is more than a comeback

Hannk hasn't returned to recreate what existed in 2018.

We've returned to deliver what we always believed could eventually be possible: a rental journey without unnecessary barriers, a platform without unnecessary complexity, technology without unnecessary upfront investment, automation without losing human customer service, and an ecosystem designed to connect the customer directly with the vehicle.
